Vlog Colab >8D

The fabulous Jessica Arnold and I teamed up this week to produce a video discussing the questions Mr. D gave us on BNW.

While we possess many positive traits (ie: beauty, brains, irresistible charm, etc.), staying on topic is not one of them. Due to this slight tendency to ramble and/or digress, the video ended up being 20 minutes long and I had to split it into 2 parts. The 2nd vid can be found on Jessica's blog.

I hope you find this somewhat interesting; it was fun for us at least. :)
EDIT: for some reason the whole video isn't showing up in this window and as a result we can only see half of Jessica's face (you may have noticed that the volume button is cut off as well). I suggest you link to the actual video so that you can see all of Miss Arnold's lovely features. Here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv9wqNq-I14

  1. so i totally agree with everything you guys said, somewhat random, but whatever. So the whole babies thing, seriously, what the heck. And the whole the government controlling the people so that they can consume and produce more, be more efficient, nice, i totally agree. Well i liked your guys' ideas and nice job with the whole video even though i think it got cut off or something.

Does this count for 2 blogs because the both of you did it, lol. Well nice job.

  2. woah! so i was just gonna reply to the comment you left me but then i watched the video. Great idea by the way! The main thing that caught my attention is the question about what huxley's intention was when he wrote the book. I've actually read this book a couple times and i still have trouble with that one. In my opinion his book is extremely similar to 1984 in that he is showing us a path which could turn our society into a totalitarian type world. Just like orwell the government in his book makes use of propaganda and mind control techniques to control the population. The only difference is Orwell's government punished undesirable behavior and Huxley's rewards desirable behavior.
Okay now to your comment. You asked, "do you believe that the emotional and psychological balance (and therefore health) of people is important at all, or is feeling healthy and balanced all that matters?"
Sorry but I'm gonna have to answer your question with another one. What is the difference between being happy and feeling happy? I know the people in BNW obtain their happiness completely differently from us but i don't see how that should make it any less genuine than ours. It only seems messed up because it's so different from our society. (Granted the electrocuting babies thing should be considered horrible in any society). Their society isn't ignoring any emotional or psychological needs, it merely has different needs than ours. If you look at it from their point of view they could easily say that You're ignoring the basic need for fulfillment of sexual desires by not sleeping with a different guy every night.
You also asked, "what is the point of even having an efficient society if unbalancing, brainwashing, & drugging-up people if is the only way for it to come about?"
I'm not saying we should start up a society like BNW but i definitely see the benefits of it despite the inhumane things they do to their citizens. Look at our world today, in america we stress our freedoms; we can speak our mind, change our government policies, improve our living conditions, and fight for any cause we believe in. It is a society perfect for an individual. And yet we have wars, stress, homicides, constant disagreement between world leaders, fear, on top of that we also have tons of emotionally unbalanced people taking pills to feel better, cults which start because of manipulative, brainwashing individuals, and drug users of all sorts. So pretty much our society contains all the evils found in BNW and dozens more. At least in their society they're unbalanced, brainwashed druggies who don't have to worry about war, poverty, or constant stress. It's kinda a lesser of two evils thing.
I don't think that quite covers everything you brought up but just comment again if you want, and don't even worry about poking holes in my argument or whatever i love discussions!
